2026 High Point Raceway Race Recap Notes

Hunter Lawrence and Cole Davies both went 1-1 at High Point and it's only the seventh time two non-USA riders swept the motos at a national. It's the first time it hasn't involved Jett Lawrence and Jo Shimoda since Chad Reed and Christophe Pourcel in 2009 at Unadilla

450 Class

Hunter Lawrence

Hunter Lawrence earned his third career overall win and second career 1-1 overall victory in the 450 class at High Point and cut his points deficit to just two points. That gap is the smallest in the 450 class through four rounds since Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen were tied at the same stage in 2019.

This was Hunter’s fifth straight High Point start in which he ended up on the podium. He’s made it ten straight motos there finishing on the moto podium. The last time he did not podium a moto at High Point was in the 250 class in 2021.

Hunter has now gone 1-1, 2-2, 4-4, 1-1 through the first four rounds. He is only the second rider, not on a perfect season, to have the same finishes in each moto at all four rounds to start a season in the 450 class. His compatriot, Chad Reed (2004) is the only other rider to do so.

Jett Lawrence

Jett Lawrence went 2-2 for second overall and that is the first time in his 450 career he has gone 2-2 in the motos. He had finished second in a moto four different times before this but still managed to win the overall on those days by winning the opposite moto.

This was only the third day in Jett’s entire 450 career in which he did not lead a single lap. He had one such day entering this season and now has two of them through four rounds.

Jett still maintains a strong record at High Point. This was the first time he has not won it since he finished second in his rookie season in 2021. He has finished on the moto podium in all twelve motos he has raced at the venue.

Haiden Deegan

Haiden Deegan returned to the overall podium at High Point with 4-3 moto scores. This was his second career 450 overall podium and his third in moto two was his fourth moto podium. Deegan has gotten better as the day progresses all season. He has podiumed three of the four second motos this season with his one non-podium a fourth at the season opener. His average moto 1 finish is 5.75 compared to 3.25 in the second motos.

Deegan put on a very strong ride in moto 2 at High Point. He had the fastest lap time on five of the last nine laps of the race and his fastest and average lap times were second, only to winner Hunter Lawrence. He also had the best laptime consistency, 99.352%, among all finishing riders in the moto.

Jorge Prado

Jorge Prado took more strides back towards the very front of the pack by going 3-5 for fourth overall at High Point. His third in moto one was his third career moto podium in AMA motocross and his first since his 2-2 at Fox Raceway. Prado now has three top five finishes out of four rounds to start the season which is more than the two he had in all of the 2025 season.

Prado’s raw speed remains there as he finished third in timed qualifying. He has finished in the top five in qualifying at all four rounds this season after doing so three times in 2025.

Aaron Plessinger

Aaron Plessinger went 6-4 for fifth overall at High Point. Fourth was his best moto finish since moto one at Southwick in 2025 and his fifth overall was his best result between both Supercross and Motocross in 2026.

Plessinger has started to show signs of his old self in recent weeks. At Thunder Valley, he quietly had a good day with 6-7 moto scores for seventh overall and now he dips back into the top five. Looking at his lap chart, his fitness would appear to be on point because in moto two, he set the second fastest lap time of the second to last lap and then the fastest lap of the final lap.

Garrett Marchbanks

Garrett Marchbanks continued his strong start to the season at High Point by going 5-6 for sixth overall. His season has been going so well that sixth is actually only his third best result through four rounds. He entered the race with a fifth and a fourth at the previous two rounds. His fifth in the first moto was his third top five moto finish of the season which is as many as he had in 47 450 moto starts entering 2026.

Marchbanks had something figured out in the final two segments of the race track because in moto one, he had the fastest average segment time through segment six and the second fastest through there in moto two. Also in moto two, he had the fastest average segment time through segment five.

250 Class

Cole Davies

Cole Davies dominated High Point earning his first career overall win with 1-1 moto scores. Davies also earned pole position in qualifying making him the first rider this season to have a perfect day in the 250 class (winning both motos and first in qualifying). With this being Davies’ first career overall win as well, he is the first rider, since the current timed qualifying format began in 2009, to have a perfect day on the same day he earned his first ever win.

Davies now has four moto wins in his first six MX starts. That is the most a rider has had in their first six starts since Christophe Pourcel (7) in 2009. If you want to exclude Pourcel who had significant GP experience, it’s the most since James Stewart (7) in 2002. For modern reference, Haiden Deegan had one moto win in his first six appearances and Jett Lawrence had zero.

Julien Beaumer

Julien Beaumer had the best day of his MX career by going 2-2 for second overall. This was Beaumer’s second career overall podium and also second of the season. His 44 point points haul is the most he has secured in one day, besting his previous most which was 38, set at Hangtown this season. That big chunk of points has gotten him to within two points of points leader Levi Kitchen.

Moto one was one of Beaumer’s best rides. He led five laps and set the fastest lap of the race. Even with his crash while leading, his pace was so high he still managed to have the second fastest average lap time of the race. He had the fastest average segment time in four of the six segments of moto one. In moto two, he did end up with the fastest average lap time of the moto.

Jo Shimoda

After not finishing on the podium at the first two rounds, Jo Shimoda has made it back to back podium finishes as he went 3-4 at High Point for third overall. This was his 29th career 250 MX podium which means he now has the most podiums in the class in history among foreign born riders.

Shimoda entered the race six points back in the standings and has cut that deficit to one. This is the closest he has been to the points lead in his mx career.

Shimoda’s third in moto one tied him with James Stewart and Blake Baggett for 12th all time in 250 moto podiums with 58. He is also now one podium away from tying Mike Brown and Erik Kehoe for 30 career overall podiums.

Levi Kitchen

Levi Kitchen went 6-5 for fourth overall and managed to eke out a one point lead at the top of the points standings. Next round, Red Bud, will be the first time he will have sole possession of the red plate in motocross. His fourth place could be seen as a good result for him at High Point because his previous overall finishes at the venue have been 12-9-9-3. Fourth is his second best finish there by far.

His moto finishes have been inconsistent this season but his moto wins have helped his overall consistency. Kitchen is the only rider in the class to finish in the top five at all four rounds so far this season. His average overall is 2.75, a full position better than second best Shimoda and Beaumer (3.75).

Kayden Minear

Kayden Minear continues to slowly improve this season as he went 10-3 at High Point for fifth overall. His overall results this season have been 12-10-8-5. His third in the second moto was his first top five moto and podium finish of his career. His speed en route to his third in the second moto was elite. He had the third fastest lap of the race and fourth best average. He had the fastest average segment time in two of the six segments of the track.

What helped Minear to his career day were his starts. He rounded lap one in ninth in moto one and second in moto two. It’s the first time in his career he started in the top ten in both motos in his six race career. Ninth was his best ever first lap position until his second in moto two.

Casey Cochran

Casey Cochran came out swinging in moto one by ripping the holeshot and leading the opening four laps. Cochran hasn’t gotten a holeshot or led laps since Hangtown last season. His speed was there in that first moto as he set the second fastest lap of the race. He ended up going 4-11 for seventh overall on the day. It is tied for the second best overall finish of his career.

Fourth is his second best moto finish and best since he finished second in moto two at Millville in 2024. This was Cochran’s seventh top ten overall result of his career.
